Mastering English Speaking Through Picture Commenting

As an English language teacher and speaking expert, I’m excited to share a fun and effective way to improve your speaking skills: commenting on story images and pictures! Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you master this technique:

Step 1: Choose Your Picture Select an image or picture that interests you. It could be anything from a scenic view to a funny cartoon or a thought-provoking illustration.

Step 2: Describe What You See Start by describing what you see in the picture. Use simple sentences to talk about the objects, people, or actions depicted. For example:

  • “In the picture, there’s a family having a picnic in the park.”
  • “I can see a cat chasing a mouse around the house.”
  • “There are colorful flowers blooming in the garden.”

Step 3: Add Details and Emotions Next, add more details to your description and express your emotions or opinions about the picture. This will help you practice using adjectives and adverbs to make your speech more vivid. For instance:

  • “The sun is shining brightly, and the children look really happy playing on the swings.”
  • “I find the painting very intriguing. The artist has used bold colors and interesting shapes to create a sense of mystery.”
  • “I feel a sense of tranquility when I look at the peaceful landscape.”

Step 4: Make Predictions or Tell a Story Use your imagination to make predictions about what might happen next in the picture or create a story based on it. This will encourage you to use different verb tenses and practice storytelling skills. For example:

  • “I think the boy in the picture will catch the butterfly and release it back into the garden.”
  • “Once upon a time, there was a magical forest where animals could talk…”

Step 5: Conclude Your Comment Wrap up your comment by summarizing your thoughts or asking a question related to the picture. This will encourage others to respond and engage in a conversation. For instance:

  • “Overall, I really like this picture because it reminds me of happy times spent with family. What do you think?”
  • “What’s your interpretation of this artwork? I’d love to hear your thoughts!”

Sentence Beginnings:

Sample Sentence in the Middle:
